It is finished

‘It is finished…’ These incredible words are mentioned in John 19:30. Jesus spoke them before tasting the sour drink he was offered before dying and submitting His spirit to God the Father.

The finished work of Jesus upon The Cross is what gave all of us the free gift of eternal life.

Jesus’ death upon The Cross revealed God as He truly is. This awesome act of sacrifice tells us of the love God has for us and the extent of that love. It is mind-blowing that He sacrificed His only Son for us. He gave the life of His perfect sinless Son to die in our place. Why would God do that for worthless sinners like us?

John 3:16
'For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life'.

Jesus was without a sin nature. The will of Jesus was aligned with the will of the Father, and he remained without sin.
The perfect sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary was required to make us right with God again (after The Fall) and to deal with our sin once and for all. Jesus was tempted, but he chose not to sin, leaving him fully worthy to be the sacrifice for our sins. There will never be a need for another sacrifice for sin. The blood of Jesus Christ wipes the record clean forever.

Hebrews 2:9
‘But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death crowned with glory and honour, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death for everyone’.

Yes Jesus finished all the necessary work for our salvation on The Cross.

God declares the sinner righteous in His sight based upon the sacrifice of Christ and nothing else. The Bible spells it out very clearly that there is nothing we could ever do to get right with God by ourselves. We are only declared righteous by God based upon nothing more than the person's believing in, trusting in, and receiving Jesus as their Lord and Saviour. God in flesh (Jesus), has done all that is necessary to make us right before the Father. We cannot add to the work of Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21
‘God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God’.

Any religion that adds anything other than the finished work of Christ on The Cross is a cult, period. Religious cults add their own rules, rituals and blasphemy to the finished work of Jesus on The Cross.
Any religion that mentions works being required as part of salvation or denying the deity of Jesus Christ is again a cult.

I say this again, and it is very very important…

Jesus has done all that is necessary to make us right before the Father. We cannot add to the work of Christ. God declares the sinner righteous in His sight based upon the work of Christ upon The Cross and nothing else.

  1. Thanks for the timely reminder that 'the main thing should be kept as the main thing'.
