What happens to people who have never heard the Gospel? Those who have never heard of Jesus Christ? Will people from some remote tribe in Africa or South America go to Hell because they are unaware of God's Holy Scripture?
How does the Bible address the question concerning those who, through no fault of their own have never heard the gospel?
For those who have never heard the good news, remember that if nothing else, everyone is responsible for the light that they have been given from general revelation. God has revealed himself to the human race consistently and undeniably. This fact should have everyone hungry to find out more about who this amazing Creator is and how we can get to know them better.
Psalm 19:
'The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge. There is no speech or language where their voice is not heard'.
Romans 1:20:
'For since the creation of the world God's invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse'.
Two witnesses proclaim that there is a God even without the gospel. The wonder of creation and the inner voice that is the conscience living inside every human being.
The Law of God is part of our very core. That innate nagging to do what is good and not what is evil. This is written on the hearts of all humans and bears witness to the truth that there is a divine power at work.
God has not revealed how exactly He is going to deal with people who have never heard of Jesus Christ. Even though we may not know how He is going to deal with these people specifically, we do know that His judgment is going to be absolutely just.
Isaiah 55:8-9
'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts'.
God's grace is incredible, beyond our comprehension. God may use supernatural means to rescue people, whether it is dispatching an angel from the Heavenly Realms or by a missionary sent to spread His word or even directly by Himself. We simply do not know how God will spread the message of salvation through His Son to those living in remote parts of the world, but we do know that God has thought of every possible eventuality. We are limited in our reasoning - The wisdom of The Lord is infinite.
But we can have confidence that the purpose of His grace is to bring ALL people to a saving faith for their sins to be forgiven and put their trust in the only one who can save - The Lord Jesus Christ. It is down to each individual to accept or reject that wonderful free gift of grace.
