us from God. The Bible tells us that ALL on this earth have sinned and have fallen
short of God's glory.
All born-again believers accept the grace of the LORD Jesus, believing He is LORD and died for your sins on the cross, this means you have placed your faith and trust in Him - He offers complete forgiveness of sins - past, present, and future.
1 Peter 3:18
"For Christ also suffered once for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit"
The more I read the references in the Bible to Lake of Fire, the more I am convinced that it is literal torment both physically and mentally for all eternity.
I know separation from God seems a logical punishment for non-believing sinners but scripture points to an eternal punishment without rest. I can't see anything that says we sleep in death.
We try at times to reason things through from mans perspective and find it hard to accept what God says. Even some Christians are convinced that a loving God would not punish someone for all eternity in somewhere as horrific as Hell.
Revelation 20:10 mentions the Beast and False Prophet being cast into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone. . . 'And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever'.
Revelation 20:10 also states 'And anyone not found written in the Lambs Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire'.
So the fate of the Devil, Beast, False Prophet AND all non-believers are bound for a literal fire of brimstone and torment.
Hell is a real place - the Bible calls it Gehenna.
We also read of the very sobering account of Hell in Luke 16: 19-31 of the rich man and the beggar Lazarus. Here Jesus gives powerful imagery of literal suffering with no escape for the rich man who died in his sins without knowing Jesus. It is filled with descriptions of pain and suffering and continual torment. The scariest part of this account of Hell is that nowhere does Jesus state that this is a parable.
Also notice that in all of Jesus’ parables, He always referred to a “certain man” or a “far off country.” Jesus never used specific names in His parables. Jesus used specific names in this account: Lazarus and Abraham. This then seems to be a factual account of something that actually happened.
The devil’s greatest trick was to convince the world through deception that he and hell do not exist.
All unbelievers who die are bound for judgment temporarily in Hades (distinct from Hell which is forever). After the events in Revelation, including the 2nd coming of the LORD Jesus Christ, there will be a "great white throne" judgment as mentioned in Revelation 20:11. The unbelievers will be resurrected to face eternal judgment for their sin. No excuses at that point and no mercy.
The Lamb's book of life, is the book wherein is recorded the name of each and every person who has received Jesus Christ as Saviour.
- Those whose names are listed in the book of life, have received God's GRACE. They will go to heaven based on the works of Jesus Christ.
- Those whose names are not listed in the Lamb's book will instead receive God's JUSTICE. They will go to hell based on their OWN works.
If you are an unbeliever, the choice of destination -- heaven or hell -- is YOURS ALONE.
God has no other Salvation plan. Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to Heaven; so God COMMANDS us to repent of our sins and receive Christ as Saviour.
The subject of hell is a tough topic for a Blog, but I think you do it justice. We in the general Church seem to shy away from the subjects of 'sin' and 'hell'. I suppose it can be uncomfortable to live as though they were real, so we play pretend. Well done for tackling it head on.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless, and keep on going! David.
Thanks David. I agree, this is a fairly taboo subject with the church today. However, the Bible is clear about this. Hell exists and although God never created Hell for people that is destination for those who have not accepted Jesus.
ReplyDeleteThere is no Plan B. So true. Well put.
